Published on October 11, 2016 in Partnerships DMI has received a $400,000 award from the US Agency for International Development (USAID) to test whether a mass media family planning campaign increases contraceptive use among men and women of reproductive age living in rural areas of Burkina Faso, using a randomised controlled trial (RCT). The funds are being provided as stage two funding from USAID’s Development Innovation Ventures (DIV) programme. DIV is an open innovation fund that sources, tests, and scales breakthrough ideas that address global development challenges around the world. DIV’s tiered-funding model, inspired by venture capital funds, invests comparatively small amounts to test new innovations, and for those that demonstrate promise of impact at scale, provide additional funding and hands-on support. This funding complements an earlier investment of $4.5m from the Global Innovation Fund and a private donor in this project (whose total budget is $4.9m).
